Cart Abandonment Diagnostic
How this works: Fill in as many fields as you can below. The more data you provide, the sharper the diagnosis. Every field has a description of exactly what it needs and why it matters. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk — everything else improves the accuracy of the report.
Funnel Conversion Rates
Homepage → Product Page Rate *
What % of visitors who land on your homepage click through to view a product. Low rates here suggest weak merchandising, unclear value proposition, or poor navigation.
e.g. 35 (meaning 35% of homepage visitors click to a product)
%
Product Page → Add to Cart Rate *
What % of visitors who view a product page actually add it to their cart. Industry average is 8–12%. Below 5% usually signals a pricing, trust, or content problem on the product page.
e.g. 9 (meaning 9% of product page viewers add to cart)
%
Cart → Checkout Initiated Rate *
What % of shoppers who have items in their cart actually start the checkout process. This is where most abandonment happens. Industry average is 40–60%. Below 30% often means sticker shock from shipping costs revealed too late.
e.g. 42 (meaning 42% of cart viewers click Checkout)
%
Checkout → Purchase Completion Rate *
What % of shoppers who begin checkout actually complete the purchase. Industry average is 50–65%. A low rate here points to checkout UX issues, forced account creation, limited payment options, or security concerns.
e.g. 55 (meaning 55% who start checkout complete it)
%
Overall Cart Abandonment Rate
The % of shoppers who add something to cart but never complete a purchase. If you know this number directly from your analytics, enter it here. Industry average is 68–75%.
e.g. 74 (meaning 74% of people who add to cart don't buy)
%
Order Value & Pricing
Average Order Value (AOV) *
The average dollar amount per completed order. High AOV with low conversion often means price sensitivity.
e.g. 85
$
Free Shipping Threshold
The minimum order amount to qualify for free shipping. If this is much higher than your AOV, it's a major abandonment driver.
e.g. 75 or 0 if always free
$
Average Shipping Cost
What customers pay for shipping on a typical order. Shipping costs above 10% of AOV significantly increase abandonment.
e.g. 8.99
$
When is Shipping Cost Shown?
The earlier customers see shipping costs, the less abandoned carts you get from sticker shock.
Traffic & Devices
Mobile Traffic %
% of visitors on phones. High mobile traffic with low mobile conversion is the #1 hidden leak.
e.g. 65
%
Desktop Traffic %
% of visitors on computers.
e.g. 28
%
Tablet Traffic %
% of visitors on tablets.
e.g. 7
%
Mobile Conversion Rate
% of mobile visitors who complete a purchase. If this is less than half your desktop rate, your mobile checkout has serious UX problems.
e.g. 1.2
%
Desktop Conversion Rate
% of desktop visitors who complete a purchase. Industry average is 2.5–4%.
e.g. 3.1
%
Top Traffic Sources
Where your visitors come from. Paid traffic typically converts lower than organic or email. Knowing this helps diagnose intent mismatch.
e.g. 40% paid social, 25% organic search, 20% email, 15% direct
Checkout Experience
Number of Checkout Steps
How many pages/steps to complete a purchase. Every extra step increases abandonment. Best practice is 1–3 steps.
Guest Checkout Available?
Forced account creation before purchase is one of the top 3 reasons for cart abandonment globally.
Payment Methods Accepted
Which payment options you offer. Missing popular options (especially PayPal, Apple Pay, or buy-now-pay-later) is a proven abandonment driver.
e.g. Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Apple Pay, Afterpay
SSL / Security Badge Visible?
Trust signals at checkout (padlock, security badges, reviews) directly impact completion rates especially for first-time buyers.
Return Policy Visible at Checkout?
Customers who aren't sure they can return a product are less likely to complete a purchase. Showing your return policy at checkout reduces hesitation.
Customer & Product Context
Repeat Customer Rate
% of orders from returning customers. Low repeat rates combined with high abandonment suggest a trust or satisfaction problem beyond just checkout.
e.g. 28
%
Product Category
What you sell. Different categories have different baseline abandonment rates — fashion averages 85%, electronics 73%, beauty 80%.
Average Number of Products in Cart
Are people buying one item or multiple? Single-item carts are more price-sensitive. Multi-item carts often abandon due to shipping cost relative to AOV.
e.g. 1.8
Do You Send Abandoned Cart Emails?
Abandoned cart email sequences recover 5–15% of lost carts on average. Not having one is leaving significant revenue on the table.
Page Load Speed
How fast your site loads, especially on mobile. Every 1-second delay reduces conversions by ~7%. Google PageSpeed score or rough description works.
e.g. "PageSpeed score 62 on mobile" or "loads in about 4 seconds"
